PUDDLETOWN SURGERY | Are you looking after someone
who wouldn’t be able to cope without your help?
If...
- you spend a significant proportion of your life providing unpaid support to a member of your family or friend
- you care for the physical, mental or social needs of a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail or disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.
You are a Carer
(It is estimated that 10% of the UK population are Carers, providing unpaid care).
Our surgery has a register of people who are also Carers. By registering with us as a Carer, we will be able to offer support to you in a variety of ways, including:
- Flexible access to your GP and nursing team
- Access to someone to talk to – a “listening ear”
- Access to local support groups and local Carer events
- Access to respite care and help in taking short breaks
- Benefit advice through the CAB
- Access to help with equipment and adaptation to housing
- A Free Fire Risk Assessment by Dorset Fire and Rescue
- Access to training in o Principles of CARE (nutrition, skin care, giving medication)
- Managing incontinence
- Looking after your back
- Preventing falls
- First Aid
- Stress management
- Memory loss in older people.
Please do talk to us if you think you are or may be a Carer. We may be able to help you to get the support and information above, which could ease the burden of caring.
Our reception staff will be happy to talk to you, so please call in, or phone them on 01305 848333. They will be able to arrange for an information pack to be sent to you, as we want to help you receive the support which you, and the person you care for, need.
